What is Agent Experience?

Agent Experience (AX) is how well software serves its newest kind of user: the AI agent. Where user experience asks how easily a person can accomplish a goal, agent experience asks how reliably an agent can perceive your systems, reason about them, and act on them — without a human translating in between.

Ontology
A shared model of what your business is — the entities, relationships, and definitions behind your data. An ontology tells an agent what things mean, not just where they live, so a “customer”, an “order”, or a “drawing” means the same thing in every system it touches.
Workflows
How work actually moves — the steps, approvals, and handoffs that turn intent into outcome. When workflows are explicit, an agent knows what to do next, what needs a human decision, and where its own work fits in the chain.
Field Knowledge
The expertise that lives in people, not systems — how the floor really runs, which exceptions matter, what a seasoned operator would do. Capturing it and connecting it to your agents is what turns automation into judgment.

When agents can work your systems reliably, people stop doing the translation work between tools — and that is where the human side begins. What is User Experience?
